A reflection on grief healing resilience and the Three Cs of recovery
🎵 Rise Again
Rise Again
Lost in the shadow of the night so cold
Tears like rivers but the story’s untold
I see a fork in the road ahead
Gotta pick a path
No more hiding in my head
First C I choose
Next C I breathe
This is my life
I won't just grieve
Choose to rise choose to fight
Choose to dance through the darkest night
Connect with hands that pull me through
Communicate my heart to you
The 3 C's they set me free
Rise Again no fear in me
Felt the anger
Bargained with time
Want to rewind
But the clock’s not mime
Now I’m building a bridge from me to you
Every word a plank
Every hug a clue
First C I choose
Next C I feel
Third C I speak
My heart's for real
Choose to rise choose to fight
Choose to dance through the darkest night
Connect with hands that pull me through
Communicate my heart to you
The 3 C's they set me free
Rise Again
Choose to rise choose to fight
Choose to dance through the darkest night
Connect with hands that pull me through
Communicate my heart to you
The 3 C's they set me free
Rise Again no fear in me
No fear in me
No fear in me
No fear in me

Inspiration
This song was inspired by watching my father, Jimmy, navigate the loss of his wife and life partner of more than fifty years. Witnessing such profound grief reminded me that loss affects each person differently. I wrote this song as a message of hope and resilience, encouraging listeners to choose, connect, and communicate as they find their way forward.
Visual Companion
Held in Strength was intentionally paired with Rise Again. The lion symbolizes courage, while the lamb represents vulnerability after loss. Together they remind us that true strength comes from carrying both grief and hope as we move forward.
The Lesson
The song introduces the 3 Cs Grief Framework: Choose, Connect, and Communicate. These simple but powerful principles encourage people to make intentional choices that support healing, connect with others rather than withdraw into isolation, and communicate openly about their emotions and needs.
Why It Matters
Grief does not move in a straight line. There are good days and difficult days, moments of hope and moments of sadness. Some individuals develop complicated grief that can lead to depression. Â The 3 Cs provide a practical framework that listeners can remember and apply.
Musical Style
A Zumba-inspired dance style was chosen because movement brings people together. Dancing encourages connection, community, and shared energy. Rather than focusing on sorrow alone, the music invites listeners to keep moving forward, support one another, and celebrate the resilience of the human spirit.
Emotions
The song evokes resilience, hope, courage, connection, and healing.
Listen For
